AuronPlay's creator, Raúl Álvarez Genes, chose the name Auron from a character in Final Fantasy X. The first videos had Raúl wearing a mask. Raúl worked at a graphic arts company for nine years before focusing on YouTube.
In 2013, Raúl launched a second channel, Auron, dedicated to video games. This channel has nearly 13 million subscribers. Raúl's most popular video, "El niño más pesado de YouTube," was uploaded in January 2018.
