His first job, at the age of 12, was in a local butcher's shop. At age 14, he apprenticed at L'Oustau De Baumaniere, a three Michelin Star restaurant located in Provence.
He moved to the United States at the age of 21. Opened The Left Bank restaurant in 1976 in Fort Lauderdale. The restaurant was sold in 1997. It was one of America’s best 100 restaurants for 22 years. He started a cooking school in 1996. The school had 40,000 students for more than 20 years. The school closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
