Dave Lee, the creator, was born on October 31, 1980, in Toronto. Dave's father is Malaysian Chinese, and his mother is Burmese Chinese. Dave studied Life Sciences at the University of Toronto. Before YouTube, Dave worked at a construction company designing medical buildings.
Dave's first creative project was a 2D game called "Inject." Dave developed it over two years and published it on the App Store in February 2014. The game sold around 2000 copies.
